The Sanctuary of Madonna della Misericordia dates back to the 14th century. Its name comes from the most treasured work of sacred art sheltered here, a portrait of Madonna della Misericordia painted in the late 18th century by Giuseppe Soleri Brancaleoni. It should be noted the intrinsic value of this masterpiece is not of artistic nature exclusively. The figure rendered in the portrait is said to have blinked in 1850, and the event has marked the beginning of a notable pilgrimage tradition. Believers come here every month, on the 12th.
